Tamil month Aadi begins today. And also Pooram nakshatra comes today.

Aandal is 14th of all 14 namAzhvars . She was daughter of 13th nammazhvar who used to spin garlands to lord Vishnu in a place called thiruvazhi puthur.
One day aandal dreamt lord and wished to marry him. She acted like his bride and wore that garland. As soon as nammazhvar returned , she gave that garland to him as if nothing happened.
But at the temple, when poojari saw hairs of aandal (kodai) in it , he became angry. Soon nammazhvar returned home and shouted at aandal.
But poojari could not decorate God with any other new garlands given by anyone.
When that garland of aandal was given, God accepted it.
She becomes happy.
She writes 30 poems in Tamil, each one Evey day of Margazhi month of Tamil year. This poem samaharam is called thiruppavai.
Today aadi month Pooram nakshatra is her birthday. So we resite her poems in temple, give bangles ,manjal kumkum , vethalai pakku , dakshinai to sumangalis and put aarathi mangalam to her.
We sung thiruppavai at GRP temple today.
